Jaibans Singh Har Rai was born to Baba Gurditta and his wife Mata Nihal Ji (also known as Mata Ananti Ji) on 16 January 1630.  Baba Gurditta, the eldest son of Guru Hargobind Ji had been handpicked by Baba Sri Chand, the son of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, to run his yogic sect called the Udasis.
