Observer Bureau report
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has had a meeting with the Chinese President Hu Jintao on the sidelines of his visit to China to participate in the third BRICS summit. A significant development is the resolve of the two Nations to set up a new border management mechanism and resume the visits of senior army officers. The relations had witnessed a dip last year when China had denied a visit to the then Army Commander, Northern Command of the Indian Army, because he was commanding troops in Kashmir. It seems that the countries are looking for ways and means to offset the existing stalemate and move ahead in the field of defence cooperation. This would, in turn help reduce tensions along the border.
